I almost missed the event! Some of you might know that photography at this point in time is just a hobby of mine and as most of us, I have an ordinary office job. Well, the weekend of AnimeShow we had a major event taking place at my workplace which I was part of, therefore my only chance at AnimeShow 2024 was on Sunday. At first, I was a little skeptical that there wouldn’t be many people because of the cold weather, and I was tired from work, but I pushed back and went, oh boy, it was a very good decision.

Winter Aquathlon for everyone

New year, new season and new experiences. As many of you might have noticed last year, I had the opportunity to document the journey of my friend on his triathlon path.This year the tables have turned. Well Lubos, what do you mean?

This year, we were little bit inpatient, you see we couldn’t wait for the triathlon season to start, so we decided to attend aquathlon. Triathlon, aquathlon what’s the difference you may ask? Well, the main difference is that there is no bike part of the race. The athletes swim, then take a break to get dry and then they run. I couldn’t say no to this opportunity as I love photography and I try to take as many chances I get to photograph people, plus in this case the event is taking place in Bratislava, so it’s not a big deal to attend.

London: The weekend trip

Yet another one of these unexpected weekend trips, that you just have to take. It’s almost end of November and I am out of paid holidays, my plan is not to use the leftover 1 day that I have left and save it for the Christmas just in case.

Well, that was until my girlfriend unfolded the plans she had for me. She happens to work for a UK based international corporation and around this time of the year they have the yearly team meet up in London. Since, I’ve never been to London, she persuade me to join her. The plan is simple, she goes there on Sunday few days before me, joins her team and does the needful, afterwards I step in and join her for extended weekend in London.

Well, where do I start? This whole event was very spontaneous and I didn’t know what to expect when I agreed to come and do the photo shoot. I wasn’t very confident neither, but I knew that this was the opportunity that I’ve been waiting for, so I just went with the flow.

But let’s go to the beginning of the story. I have mentioned few times to one of my colleague at work that I do photography as a hobby and that I would like to focus on portrait photography, what I didn’t expect is that he also has a very interesting hobby, he’s an actor and his group needs portrait headshots taken for one of their upcoming plays. What else would I want? Of course, I have accepted without asking for further details. We have agreed on the date and time and it was set.

Scotland: Holidays in Highlands

A departure from my usual sports photography, this time I embarked on a well-deserved holiday. After a grueling triathlon season, my body and mind craved rest. And what better way to unwind than by immersing myself in a scenic trail running race in the enchanting landscapes of Scotland? But before I delve into that adventure, let me share my journey through Scotland’s picturesque vistas.

My sojourn in Scotland was brief, yet I was determined to make the most of it through the lens of my camera. Scotland’s reputation as a breathtakingly picturesque country preceded it, and I was eager to experience its beauty firsthand. Besides the race, my primary goal for this Scottish holiday was to hone my photography skills, particularly in capturing the magnificence of landscapes and the subtle charm of street scenes.

The end is here, the final race of the 2023 triathlon season, and I’m there as a photographer to capture the moment. This race holds significant importance for some participants, as it’s their chance to make up for missing points in the Slovak Cup rankings.

I arrived at the location in the afternoon since my usual companions weren’t participating in the Olympic triathlon. The parking area was nearly full, and we were directed to park on the bike path, which meant a roughly 30-minute walk to the race circuit. But that was a small price to pay for the opportunity to photograph the last event of the season.

The highly anticipated race of the season is finally upon us, leading us to Zilina. Our journey commences on Friday with a relatively short drive to Puchov, where we establish our basecamp for the weekend. Puchov, conveniently situated just 40 minutes away by car from Zilina, proves to be the ideal location as we embark on an extended weekend of excitement. Prior to reaching Puchov, however, a quick stop at the grocery store is in order to replenish our refreshments.

Fresh from the start of the season, I headed to Samorin for my second photo shoot event, but it was the first official one where my friend Jaromir was racing. Drawing from my experience at the FTVS Bratislava race, I decided to go all out. Thanks to another friend of mine, Karol, I was able to rent the best lens I could think of – the Sony 70-200mm F2.8. With this beast, the sky’s the limit.

A few months ago, one of my friends shared his ambition to compete in the Slovak Cup Triathlon and aim for nothing less than a podium finish. While I was genuinely happy for my friend, I also recognized a valuable opportunity in this endeavor. In August 2022, I embraced photography as a hobby, and this decision motivated me to venture out and seek subjects to capture through my lens. Without hesitation, I volunteered to be my friend’s personal photographer.

Wow, I made it to my 3rd triathlon event! It seems that I’m on the right path to sticking with this hobby. While I’m not entirely in my comfort zone yet, I feel like I’m headed in the right direction. When we talk about trends, I find myself alone once again – well, not alone, but without my partner.

The ride to Dvory was smooth and enjoyable. We arrived at the location on time and parked the car in a nearby forest to keep it shaded and prevent it from getting scorching hot. After a while, the rest of the group arrived. This time, the full triathlon squad was present, including all the EST people (read: girlfriends). The location appeared lovely, and everything was conveniently close by, allowing me to capture all the race disciplines.

It finally happened! I won’t be going alone this time. Despite my efforts to be self-sufficient when attending photo shoot events, I must admit there’s a noticeable difference between going solo and having a partner in crime. On my 5th triathlon event, Andrea finally managed to join me.

What a difference it made – suddenly, snacks, water, and basically everything were covered by her. Getting to the event was straightforward: you drive on the highway for an hour, turn left, and you’re there. We followed a bike road until we reached the location. Parking was a bit challenging; although we could have parked much closer to the start line, the absence of staff to guide cars prevented us from taking the risk. Therefore, we settled for the first parking spot we could find.

When I found out that we were heading to Stara Myjava, my excitement soared. I knew that the road trip there would offer breathtaking scenery, and let me tell you, Stara Myjava did not disappoint! The drive was a sheer joy, taking us through wide, curving fields adorned with golden wheat. The weather also played its part, with abundant sunshine interspersed with scattered clouds that provided the perfect finishing touch to the already mesmerizing atmosphere.

I don’t even know where to begin. I wasn’t expecting to attend this event at all. Through life’s unexpected turns, I received an email from my friend expressing his desire to attend the race on short notice. Little did I know at the time that the lens I had ordered a few weeks ago would actually arrive before the event. When I received a confirmation email from the delivery company, I knew I had to go.

Embarking on my fourth Triathlon photo shooting event, I found myself amidst the picturesque backdrop of a cozy ski resort near the village of Valca. The plan was set: a Friday night stay in the quaint village of Mochovce, followed by an early morning journey to Valca for the commencement of the race.

What made things little harder was the fact that the rental company I use to rent the lens(Sony 70-200m GM F2.8) from on short notice cancelled my order. Therefore I needed to deal with the situation quickly; luckily I had an access to spare Tamron 70-180mm F2.8, so I took t with me, problem solved!
